Getting here

The great thing about Le Castel is that it is far enough away to be different but close enough that it is easy to get to. Just pile the kids into the car.

We are just over an hour from the ferry ports of Caen and Cherbourg, which are served by Brittany Ferries from Portsmouth and Poole. The ships are beautiful and packed with things to do. You can do the fast craft, but I often recommend the more traditional slower ferries as there is far more to keep kids occupied.

The traditional ferry also feels like part of the holiday rather than a travel chore

It is a good idea to get a cabin even on a day crossing, as it gives you a base and a place to hopefully put the kids to bed for a short while.

The fast craft have airline type seating and very few facilities – just a café bar and play area.

The traditional ferries have great restaurants, shops, play area, cinema etc. Day cabins only cost £20.

You can get a discount with Brittany Ferries if you book at Le Castel – ask for the code.

You can also use the port of St Malo, which is around 90 minutes from us.

If you don’t like sailing you can take the quick and easy Eurotunnel. It is then a 3.5 hour drive to us, but is all on good motorways.

Paris is 3 hours away by train. You come into Coutances.

Another option is to fly with Ryanair from Stanstead or East Midlands to Dinard, where car hire is easy and reasonably priced. Dinard is 90 minutes from us.

If you have your own plane you can fly into Cherbourg or Brehal. It is also possible to land a helicopter at Le Castel.

Baby stuff

There is no need to pack the car full of baby gear, as we have a lot of the stuff you need.

We have cots/cribs, high chairs, baby plates and cutlery, toilet seat reducer, toilet raiser, baby bath, toys etc.
